While you can tweak these, you can't import your own. Wordpress has a huge advantage here, as Wordpress allows for importing all sorts of themes and components.

You don’t need a read me for Blogger. You can create a blog, and start
writing right away without needing to go through the ‘Help’ website.
Everything is clear cut so that novice and experienced computer users can
use it without any problems. Simply put, it is intuitive. With a modern design for 2020, this means a
mom from Utah or a dad from Alabama can pick it right up and start
their own blog. Right on the side you can easily view and access information about your blog that may matter to you, such as hits (stats), earnings if you use Adsense, and the ability to change your layout or theme! This is a big improvement from the past. Adsense is built-in to Blogger now so you can easily access and view settings for that. With that said, you would think that there would be
easy access to Google’s vast amount of tools for webmasters. But there
isn’t. You need to go to separate Google web pages to submit your blog
to its indexing service, sign up and get the code for its Google
Analytics software. Google's Search Console is another example.
Tools: B+

The biggest advantage to using Blogger is that it is owned by Google.
This makes it easy for you to register and install Adsense in your blog,
as well as get indexed and appear in Google search results. It also
pushes your blog and blogposts closer to the top of Google's search
results since Google definitely loves itself! Blogspot blogs get higher search rankings simply because of the connection to Google.
In my wildest dreams I never imagined when I started this blog that I'd be updating it in 2020 during a global pandemic, but here we are. Things have changed, but they've also remained the same. Wordpress and Blogger are still king in the blogging world; they've definitely settled in as the leaders with few contenders trying to dethrone them. Everyone wants to be heard, just these days it is on TikTok and video instead of traditional typed words using blogs. But there is something therapeutic about hearing that click of the key (like the typewriter in the old days) and letting the words go from mind to screen. Instead of a highly edited video on TikTok, the blog allows for unedited thoughts without the need for video editing skills.

The interfaces may have changed but many things have remained the same. Here's to blogging and getting out of this thing alive.

Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-56577108622467191212015-05-28T09:50:00.004-04:002015-06-09T11:17:45.409-04:00Choosing a Blogging Platform: Hosted

Full Control of Design – Depending upon your ability with web design standalone blogs generally are very adaptable. I am not strong in this area personally but am constantly amazed by some of my colleague’s abilities to create incredibly diverse and clever designs. Of course those bloggers with little ability in this area may either need to use default templates (with the same limitations as default templates of hosted blogs) or get others to help with this.

Adaptability – One of the things I enjoy about WordPress is the vast array of developers who are coming up with all manner of ‘plugins’ which extend the ability of the basic WP installation. Similarly many of the other standalone platforms have communities of developers producing similar arrays of plugins

Free Platforms – while you end up paying for your domain name and hosting systems like these are usually free to run. Some do have license fees if you’re having multiple blogs or using them for commercial purposes – but many are open source.

URL – Having your own domain name is great for many reasons. For one it’s easier to remember, secondly it’s more professional and hirdly it is more easily brand-able.

Cons:

Complicated Set Up – once again this depends upon your technical abilities and web savvy but when you move into stand alone platforms the complexity of set up tends to increase. It often involves arranging hosting, setting up databases and then downloading the platform onto you own computer and then uploading it via ftp onto your web hosting server. There are good tutorials around for most of the platforms to help with this process but for many it is a daunting thing. Once again it’s not my strength so I generally get by blogs set up and designed by a professional designer (although recently have been learning to do it a little more myself). NB: one way around this is to find a web host that will install your blog platform for you. This is becoming increasingly popular. Some platforms even recommend hosts that will do it for you

Cost – While the blog platform itself might be free you need to factor in the ongoing costs of having your own domain name (a yearly fee plus a one off registration fee) and hosting fees (again yearly). There are many great deals out on these so it need not cost the world – although if your blog gets a lot of traffic the costs do go up and you might want to consider going onto a more professional and expensive plan.

Updates – Most blog platforms go through different and versions over time. Updating from one to another can be complicated if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Hosting Issues – I mentioned in the cons of the hosted platforms that you have ‘less control’ over your blog and are at the whims of your platform’s hosting being up or down. Of course this is also true for any hosting as from time to time different hosting solutions can have their own problems. Whether you use a hosted solution or a stand alone solution it’s important to back up and be aware that from time to time things do go down. Choose a reputable host if you go the stand alone route to ensure maximum uptime.

And then there is the decision as to whether you want to host the blog yourself on your own domain, point your domain to a free solution, or some other option. Here is what you should consider when making the choice:

Budget: If you don't want to put any money into your blog, go with a free blog hosted at wordpress.com or blogger.com. The advantage of this is that in the future, you can easily purchase any domain of your choice and point it in the direction of the free blog.

When it comes to costs, there are three main expenses to keep in mind:

The blog platform itself

Hosting for your blog

Domain Name

Technical skill: If you have little or no technical skills in terms of design, purchasing a domain, etc. you'll either need to buy a book, do a lot of research, or hire someone to do it for you. That may also mean something like Blogger is better since it is quite a bit more intuitive than Wordpress.

Goals: Try to answer the following questions to the best of your ability:

Is blogging something I see myself doing long term?

What will the main purpose of my blog be?

Is my blogging more of a hobby or does it have some professional application?

Do I foresee putting ads on my blog?

Pros and Cons of Hosted Blog Platforms

Pros:

Cheap or Free to run – most hosted options are free (of the four I mentioned above, only TypePad charges).

Relatively easy to set up – most of these types of blogs can be set up with a basic default template within minutes. The set up is usually just a matter of filling in a few fields with your options and choosing a template design. They are ideal if you know nothing or very little about the technological side of blogging.

Simple to Run – Once you’re through the easy set up process hosted blogs are usually pretty simple to run. You will obviously need to learn some basics, but these days most blog platforms come with very user friendly features. Posting is as simple as filling in a few fields and hitting publish.

Updated Automatically – if the blog platform updates it will automatically do so for you. Instead of having to upload new software onto a server, these updates happen much more seamlessly.

Indexed in Search Engines Quickly – one of the advantages of many hosted blog platforms is that they are put onto domains that have good page ranks already. While your blog won’t be indexed in search engines when you start, most bloggers notice that their blogs get picked up and ranked pretty quickly. In the long run they probably don’t rank much higher than other blogs on stand alone hosting – but they are a quick way to get into SE’s.

Cons:

Less Configurable – My first blog was on a Blogger.com blog – the reason I moved from it within months was that it was so limited in terms of features and ability to design a professional running blog. Of course this was 3 years ago and Blogger.com has improved significantly – but one of the biggest frustrations with hosted blog owners are their limited options for customization. This does vary from platform to platform within the hosted options. For example WordPress.com has quite limited design options (for instance you can’t ad ads to templates making it a poor choice to make money with), Blogger.com doesn’t give the option for categories and TypePad has different options depending upon which level you buy in at.

Default Design Limitations – While this can be true for standalone blogging systems also I find that many hosted blogs end up looking very similar to one another. This is because the default templates get used over and over again and if you’re a beginner they can be difficult to adapt. For instance with Blogger.com to make changes (and you can make your blog look quite unique) you need to know CSS and HTML to edit your templates (something you need to know with other platforms also it’s worth mentioning).

Less Control – Another common complaint I hear regularly from hosted blog owners is that they are frustrated by not having ultimate control over their blog. While they do own the content, the URL is not technically their own and they are somewhat at the mercy of their platform in terms of whether their blog is working or not. For example there have been times in the last few months when TypePad bloggers have been frustrated by their blogs being down for periods of time (something Blogger.com struggles with from time to time also). To be fair on TypePad – they did compensate their bloggers for this down time.

Generic URL – having your own URL can give a sense of professionalism and memorability to a blog that hosted options might well go without. While there are some very successful blogs on hosted platforms some bloggers believe that having your own URL is much more professional if you are using your blog in a professional way.

Upgrading to Standalone can be Tricky – Probably the question worth asking before you go with a hosted option is what you’ll do if your blog gets big or you get the blogging bug in a way that won’t let you go? One of the issues of starting out with a hosted platform is that if there comes a day when you want to go with a standalone one that you have some work cut out for you in retaining any traffic that you’ve built up. I’m not saying it’s impossible to do (I’ve done it myself) but there are implications of changing domains later in terms of taking regular readers with you, having to climb the search engine rankings all over again and redirecting traffic from one blog to another.

Now that you have ads on your website, the money will start rolling in, right? WRONG. There are some important things that you have to do in order to maximize the chances of someone clicking on an ad. These actions are based on a report of the top-earning blogs on the internet.

Placement:

Engadget places ads before comments but after posts on individual pages for an article, while on the main page, places ads in between each post.

Gizmodo places ads between posts on the main page.

A blog about Digital Photography puts ads on top of posts, and ads before the comments.

Google has created an image which shows the most clicked areas of a website. I have attached it for your viewing pleasure.

Style:
Look at the ads on this blog. They blend in with the text from my blog. The color of the text of the ad, the background color, and the link color all are the same in the ad as in my blog. That way, you can get accidental clicks and people interested in the ads.

Be sure to NOT ACCIDENTALLY CLICK your own adsense ads. That will probably get your account suspended permanently. Also be sure to read the Terms of Service of AdSense, so you know the do's and dont's to keep your account straight and more importantly, OPEN.Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-72077198715270136082014-03-22T12:59:00.001-04:002015-06-05T10:22:42.656-04:00SEO Is No Longer The Way to Increase Page rank and Page viewsI am back to writing and my first blog post will hopefully stir up some debate. The topic? SEO

I believe SEO is dying off... here's why.

Many people focus in on SEO since it is obviously a hot buzz-word and those with only a cursory knowledge of the web and search engines are hot to search for and engage in the latest and greatest SEO. But those who have been at the blogging game for a while and know the in's and out's really know that the best way to get views and new readers is to leave the confines of your blog and comment on other blogs, other forums, reddit, etc.

When I say views and readers, I don't mean one and dones that will come to your blog, read the top post, and leave. These will be people who are interested in the same subject matter (they followed you from the other blog / post to your blog, didn't they?) and will comment, stay, and make a home reading and commenting your blog. This won't come over night though. You have to establish yourself as a good voice and smart commenter and actually contribute to the conversation. Then you link your website (hopefully to blog post on the issue) and the views will come.
It's been a long time but BFB is back in business with an expanded view of blogging and technology!Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-76909480430728193142008-06-20T11:24:00.004-04:002015-05-27T16:54:32.699-04:00Blogging Platform Review: Blogger (UPDATED 2015)The first blogging platform that I will review is the platform that I use, Blogger. Blogger has been around since 1999 and has gone through MANY changes since the beginning. Once upon a time, you had to pay to receive the ability to do certain things with Blogger. In 2003, Google bought out Blogger and made those services available for free. Read below for my no-frills review of Blogger. I highlight the important features FOR YOU.

The one thing that REALLY differentiates Blogger from its biggest (free) competitor, Wordpress, is the ability to freely edit your own templates. [For a fee, you can gain the ability to freely edit Wordpress templates hosted at Wordpress.com] You can create your own template, use templates created by others, or use pre-designed templates. Minimal skills in HTML are necessary for the most novice of computer users. However, to truly edit a template, knowledge of CSS is needed. Arranging the components of your blog is also very easy to do. You can just slide components wherever you like.
Design Tools: B+

You don’t need a read me for Blogger. You can start a blog, and start writing right away without needing to go through the ‘Help’ website. Everything is clear cut so that novice and experience computer users can use it without any problems. Simply put, it is intuitive. This means a mom from Minnesota or a dad from Dallas can pick it right up and start their own blog.
East of Use: A

Because Blogger is owned by Google, you would think that there would be easy access to Google’s vast amount of tools for webmasters. But there isn’t. You need to go to separate Google web pages to submit your blog to its indexing service, sign up and get the code for its Google Analytics software, and yet again, you need to sign up on a separate website for Adsense / Adwords.
Tools: B-

The biggest advantage to using Blogger is that it is owned by Google. This makes it easy for you to register and install Adsense in your blog, as well as get indexed and appear in Google search results. It also pushes your blog and blogposts closer to the top of Google's search results since Google definitely loves itself!
X-Factor: A-

Come back on Monday for my review of Wordpress. And don't forget to sign up for email updates from FeedBlitz (on the left)!Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-30961879903384917292008-06-19T12:42:00.003-04:002015-05-27T16:55:44.008-04:00New Series: Choosing a Blogging Platform in 2015Looking back, I’ve covered a multitude of topics. From tips on making money, getting traffic, inspiration, SEO, to writing your blog posts. There have been basic topics to advanced topics. However, there is one basic topic which I have neglected to write on. That one topic is one of the most basic aspects of blogging. One that users contend with EVERYDAY that they blog. Only one thing could be so universal: Blogging Platforms.

What you blog on is more important then you think. Each platform has its own plusses and minuses. It is your job, the blogger, to determine which platform is best for what you want to do and what you want to write about. There is also the issue of users. Which platform is best for user interaction? Which is the most aesthetically pleasing for your readers to read your work on? Is the platform Digg, Reddit, or SEO friendly/ready?

There are also other issues to think about:

How easy is it to switch platforms? Most of the time, it is very hard to switch platforms. If you are using a free service, such as Wordpress.com, Blogspot.com, etc. a move between platforms will force you to change URLs and lose all of your hard earned backlinks and comments. This can be avoided by owning a Domain, but that is beyond the scope of this article.

How technologically capable are you? ome platforms are more technical, meaning they require a high level of knowledge to set up and maintain.

Tomorrow, I will address the issue of Hosted vs. Stand Alone Platforms.
You have to post on different blogs, websites, forums, etc. to get your blog out there. No matter what type of blog you have or the subject of your blog, there are always going to be places where you can find a good amount of traffic.

If you like and have a genuine interest in what you are writing about, why care if someone reads it or not? You are putting it out there for the whole world to view, and if they view it or not, thats their business. As long as you enjoy doing it, you shouldn't stop.

Good luck blogging!Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-88991906947157209692008-06-16T10:45:00.003-04:002008-06-16T13:18:34.072-04:00The Lessons of Seinfeld and Pop CultureA few days before I started this blog, I created another blog. It was a personal blog that only lasted a few days before I realized it was useless to go on writing on it. One of my posts however, was a collection of Seinfeld quotes. It was titled "Top 10 Seinfeld Quotes"

For your amusement:

The sea was angry that day, my friends, like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli… - George

I was the best man at the wedding. If I’m the best man, why is she marrying him? - Jerry

What is a date really, but a job interview that lasts all night? The only difference is that in not many job interviews is there a chance you’ll wind up naked. - Jerry

You know you’re getting old when you get that one candle on the cake. It’s like, “See if you can blow this out.” - Jerry

See, the thing of it is, there’s a lot of ugly people out there walking around but they don’t know they’re ugly because nobody actually tells them. - Jerry

I will never understand why they cook on TV. I can’t smell it. Can’t eat it. Can’t taste it. The end of the show they hold it up to the camera, “Well, here it is. You can’t have any. Thanks for watching. Goodbye.” - Jerry
“I’ll sniff out a deal. I have a sixth sense.”

“Cheapness is not a sense.”
- George and Jerry

“I’m not ashamed of my body.”
“Exactly. That’s your problem. You should be.”
- Jerry and the Naked Guy

“I always get the feeling that when lesbians look at me, they’re thinking, “*That’s* why I’m not a heterosexual.”
- George

====================================

I never advertised my blog or left comments asking for people to come back. All I did was submit the Seinfeld blog post to Digg (it got 8 Diggs or so) and Google's indexing service. Yet in the last month alone, the post about Seinfeld quotes has been viewed 58 times. Fifty-eight! That shows how important the words you use are. Seinfeld is a popular search term. By using terms and references from pop culture, sports, or other popular search terms in your blog posts, you can easily draw in traffic by doing almost no work! Do a search for "Top 10 seinfeld quotes" in Google (without the quotes) and MY [old] BLOG POST is the first result.

Even though my submission to Digg garnered few Diggs, it still helped bring visitors into my blog that got the ball rolling on the blog post's rise to the top. In total, the Seinfeld blog post, which I spent NO TIME promoting except for one Digg submission and submitting the website to Google, has gotten 880 views in one year. I know that may not seem like much, but for a blog post with NO promotion or activity in over a year whatsoever, thats pretty darn good. Imagine if I HAD promoted the blog and the post.

This is part of a huge trend (which you probably already knew about). Take a look at Yahoo's most popular search terms for 2007. In case you don't want to look, here's the list:
1. Britney Spears
2. WWE
3. Paris Hilton
4. Naruto
5. Beyonce
6. Lindsay Lohan
7. Rune Scape
8. Fantasy Football
9. Fergie
10. Jessica Alba

How many of those are Pop Culture related? Next time you think about writing a blog entry, remember to drop a celebrity's name in there any time you can

Good luck blogging!Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-58794816578284964222008-06-13T10:02:00.002-04:002008-06-16T10:44:16.261-04:00Your WritingSo far, we’ve addressed issues such as design, making money, linking, SEO, etc. While thinking of something that I could write about, it dawned on me that I had not touched on something that is an integral part of blogging: Your writing. Let me admit something to you. I like writing. I enjoy reading and I enjoy writing. That’s why writing about blogging comes so naturally to me. And I have gotten many comments from readers about how easy my blog posts are to read and understand. Let me now teach you how to make YOUR writing the best it can be.

PART I

1) Remember who your readers are – Write for your readers. If your blog is about farming, then feel free to use farming terms that the average person living in the city may not know. And that’s alright, because a city Joe who finds your blog isn’t going to be interested in farming if you have technical farming terms or not. If your blog is more of a jack-of-all-trades blog, then be careful to explain any terms you feel a certain group of your readers may not know.

2) Write matter of factly - This one is pretty simple. Just remember that you’re writing on a blog and not an encyclopedia.

3) Proofread - Another simple tip. Read and re-read and re-re-read your work. Check for typos. Writing a blog post in Microsoft Word is helpful because of the spelling and grammar corrections it can make.

Good luck blogging!Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-48884617073097562442007-12-24T14:31:00.000-05:002007-12-24T15:13:25.570-05:00An updateI'll be posting updates again.. so stand by. That is an understatement. There are millions of porn websites and blogs, well known ones in addition to lesser known ones. But there is a reason for that: Sex sells. An excellent example comes from 2004, when Google started to do searches for images. One guy, Hugh Elliot, who publishes a blog, had a picture named "porn.jpg" The image was not pornographic at all, and was not even on the first page of results, yet it gave him an extra 700 hits PER DAY As a little test, I will include an image and see the result. I will report back in a few days.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinUz9zIeKZlUFPUwqu5svh3LplDESbSVXxK9iu41JhcBoi_8eB57WB4IScGinW4IXUyIATvWuNaHM_13HAYBlY1OSrlhyYm4IW_zU7HZl6k0i2_6wpqiJoNTLVuoy6S9KDo0atpApZIzW0/s400/hayden_sexy_nude.jpg.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5102796051413713298" />Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-59537741014432138662007-07-05T16:58:00.000-04:002007-07-05T17:03:53.050-04:00Blog CarnivalThere is a severe error with the HTML code generated by the blogcarnival.com website. It will be up shortly due to some difficulties with the website and formatting of the HTML code.Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-67396655133582314062007-06-18T14:13:00.000-04:002007-06-18T15:23:25.664-04:00Tip #19 - SEO (Search Engine Optimixation) Simplified [Part 2]Yesterday, I introduced the concept of SEO. In it, I discussed how search engines use crawlers to search through websites and blogs for links. When someone links to your blog or website, its like that website is vouching for your blog. Hence, to make a long story short, that is why lots of links to your blog are good. The search engine crawlers find a lot of links to your blog, so they interpret that as meaning that your blog must be very good. From this, we get the term Backlink.

Backlinks are defined in Wikipedia as "incoming links to a website or web page."

A big part of SEO is getting A LOT of quality backlinks. I say quality because there are different kinds of backlinks. There are so called link farms, links from high quality websites, links from low quality websites, as well as links from high traffic and low traffic. While you should always pay attention to the quality of the sites that link to you and that you link to, you should also pay attention to something called Pagerank. And we will discuss that in our final post on this topic, tomorrow.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
*Note* One of the ways to attract visitors to your blog is by participating in a Blog Carnival. An even better way of drawing traffic is by hosting one, which is exactly what I am doing. The blog carnival wants your posts about anything related to blogging. How you draw traffic to your blog, how to get ideas on what to write, how to make money with your blog, etc etc. The possibilities are endless. Entering the carnival can only do good for you and your blog. It will help bring traffic to your blog and you will get a good long post out of it. Its free to participate and all you have to do is go to This Website where I have opened an account for the carnival. All you have to do is submit your link to your blog post by June 29 and you're in! Thats it! If you have any questions, leave me a comment or shoot me an email!
Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-82634398637688329462007-06-17T18:06:00.001-04:002007-06-17T19:08:54.501-04:00Tip #18 - SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Simplified* Just a note >> Comments are always appreciated and if you like the website, sign up to receive emails whenever the blog is updated, along with a copy of the new blog post. All this can be accessed in the top left of this website. *

If you've searched for ways to improve your blog's traffic, inevitably you've ran into phrases such as SEO, Pagerank, Backlinks, and other internet terminology. I will publish a series of posts this week which I hope will help you to fully grasp what it takes to have a good Pagerank, and many backlinks.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Wikipedia defines SEO as the "process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engines via" search results. Why do we need SEO?

Wikipedia states "The leading search engines, Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft, use crawlers to find pages for their algorithmic search results." Crawlers crawl through billions upon billions of websites searching for links to other websites / blogs. And so on... That is the end of the background information on SEO. Tomorrow, we get on to the meatier subjects.

Tomorrow: Backlinks -> What they are, do, and how they are vital for your blog.

Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-69540557016933489862007-06-14T22:56:00.000-04:002007-06-15T12:25:05.460-04:00Tip #17 - Do Your Readers Know Who Writes Your Blog? You certainly know the person who writes your blog. But do your readers know him / her? Your blog doesn't need a full auto-biography about you, the author of the stories. However, a few sentences are good for readers as writings that are simply anonymous don't hold much water for people if they don't know anything about the author. Moreover, people want to know your credentials and see if they should be reading what you write. Will people believe something about deli meats that they read from someone who works for a baseball team? (I used deli because I work in one)

On that same level, a picture is helpful, for as one blog writer put it: "It offers a more personable impression of the author. You enhance your credibility by the simple fact that you're not trying to hide. Also, users relate more easily to somebody they've seen."

Good luck blogging!

P.S. >> To the upper left of this post, you might see something saying "Get Email Updates" etc. This is a free service that allows users to sign up with an email adress and get updates on new posts in your blog. This is yet another way to help bring back readers... Sign up for my blog updates today! All email addresses are kept private. Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-19548403925096866332007-06-13T20:42:00.000-04:002007-06-13T21:14:41.674-04:00Tip #15.5 - Surviving in the Blogging WorldEvery half second, a new blog is born. Thats right. According to CNet and Technorati, someone around the world makes a new blog every half second. How do you survive and stand out from the rest?

1) Submit posts to "article directories". They are websites which post your articles and link to your blog, sending you visitors. A good one is http://www.ezinearticles.com/

2) Contact other bloggers that share your interest / topic area and ask about guest writing on each others blogs.

3) Create some sort of contest for your blog. Have a Blog Carnival (more later on about that). They draw visitors to your blog. Some questions to ask about the contest though, from blogclout.com

How easy is it to enter the contest

How fun is it to participate in the contest

What rewards and incentives can be won

How to generate the first few participants for the contest

How easy is it to spread the word about the contest

Thats the end of my quick post... Good luck!Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-50606201221908342312007-06-13T15:02:00.000-04:002015-06-05T10:22:18.236-04:00Tip #15 - Advertise Your Blog Using Different Methods in 2015 With this post, I will help you gather ideas and inspiration on how best to advertise your blog and get its name out there. There are several unconventional ways to do this, all of which have helped this blog itself rise up in Google's Pagerank.

1) Comments - Commenting on other people's blogs will draw the blog owner's to your blog as well as driving readers of those blogs to your blog (if you include your blog address). If you leave comments that are well written, nice, and coherent, people will want to check out your blog. If your content is good and interesting, they'll keep coming back.

2) Forums - Use forums that are in your blog's niche as a way to bring in boat loads of visitors to your site. Be sure to include your blog's address in your signature, and search for topics that you have addressed in your blog. Be sure not to post so many times that you are spamming the board.. that will take away readers. Add to the conversation, then post a link to a relevant blog.

3) Real World - You can print up business cards and go to local shops / stores, or conferences / meetups and give out the card with your website address on it.

4) Exchange Links - I think I have gone over this already, but it is worth reiterating. Exchanging links is VERY important and helps draw traffic to your blog which otherwise might never have found it. Personally, I only link to sites that are of good quality and also have the same niche (blogging).

Good luck!Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-55848267798774461202007-01-30T21:33:00.000-05:002007-01-30T22:48:49.547-05:00Tip #14 - How to Get Mass Attention to Your BlogSorry again about the lack of update, I went into New York City for the entire day on the spot on Saturday and recuperating all day Sunday. Here's something that could be quite helpful for your blog:

If you're thinking about submitting your blog to Digg, think about this first. According to Digital Inspiration, Digg Traffic will come in a flood. They may Digg your site, and then leave it. Drawing this mass amount of traffic from Digg may help increase the chance of someone clicking on one of your Adsense ads, but in the long wrong, it will not make much of a difference. The Digg users that visit your blog will probably not end up leaving comments.

That is why you should concentrate on getting your blog noticed by important blogs and bloggers that are in your blog's niche or genre. While they may not bring the epic amount of traffic that Digg may get you, important blogs will help draw more long-term readers to your blog. Visitors from these blogs will often leave comments. Finally, getting a link on a good blog will help increase your Google Page Rank and give your blog more credibility.Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-493935318862444912.post-56672632748742781902007-01-26T18:54:00.000-05:002007-01-26T19:08:41.118-05:00Tip #13 - The Importance of an Entry TitleWhile you may not pay much attention to the title you give to a blog entry, it is more important then you may think. Newspapers employ "title editors" who are given the task of coming up with enticing, interesting, and catchy headlines that will attract the reader's eyes and mind to the article. Readers love titles that talk about an "inside scoop" or "inside story." Even if you don't have the inside story on something, you can still give the reader a sense of intimacy with the title. In addition, descriptive titles also help a reader decide if he / she want to read an article.

Examples:

The Dirt on Entry Titles
The Lowdown on Knitting Ties
The Apple iPod: Inside scoop on a Wide screen Version

For more on this topic, go here.

Good luck!Bricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06287815642091562796noreply@blogger.com0
